The Grand Rapids Women's Chorus has partnered with Goldenrod Music to distribute their collection of recorded music. Goldenrod distributes music from around the world and GRWC is proud to be a part of their extensive catalog.
This truly remarkable recording features four commissioned works for women's choir: Libby Larsen's "The Summer Day" (text from a poem by Mary Oliver) 2006,Diane Benjamin's "Miracle", 2006; Ysaye Barnwell's "Memorial 1" (text by Audre Lorde) 2005; and Marjan Helm's "Rainsong", 2000. In addition, we will be presenting favorite songs from the past decade of singing, including an anti-aparteid song by Zap Mama "Guzophela", a West African playground song by Felicia Sandler "Sansa Kroma", a piece from the Songs of Survival collection "Largo" by A. Dvorak and M. Dryburgh, and many others.
Under the direction of Lori Tennenhouse, this amazing chorus has recorded this stunning live performance of Diane Benjamin's breast cancer oratorio. A beautiful testament for anyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer, the CD features string players from the Grand Rapids Symphony and powerful narrations by cancer survivors. Proceeds from the sale of "Where I Live" go to Gilda's Club Grand Rapids and Reeling and Healing of Michigan, an organization which runs fly fishing retreats for breast cancer survivors.
On their first CD, The Grand Rapids Women's Chorus, under the direction of Lori Tennenhouse, captures the rhythmic vitality of songs from all over the world. From Japan, Korea, Russia, Israel, and Native American cultures, the music on this CD brodcasts an energy that only a live recording can generate. Check out this recording for exciting, well-written arrangements that sing both from a woman's heart and a world perspective. One of the best women's choral recordings to date.
